5 Lessons Every Investor Should Learn From Hilda Baci

Good Morning 😃

How are you doing?

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, recently embarked on a mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual. Hilda Baci is a renowned foodpreneur, actress, and TV presenter known for her exceptional homemade recipes. She is the founder of “My Food by Hilda,” a premium restaurant and delivery service for African and continental dishes. Hilda’s passion for cooking was inspired by her mother’s culinary techniques.

The cook-a-thon, which began on May 11 and ended on May 14, featured a live-streamed show on multiple social media channels where Hilda made over 100 recipes. Baci started her 4-day cooking marathon challenge on May 11 at Amore Gardens and has cooked several Nigerian recipes, from rice to pasta, akara, among others. The 27-year-old cooked for 100 hours to beat Lata Tondon, who completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India, in 2019.

Here are five key lessons that investors can learn from Hilda Baci:

  • Develop a plan and make it SMART:

Hilda’s cook-a-thon journey started five years ago. It was one of her biggest aspirations, and she took time to prepare for it both psychologically and mentally. As an investor, you need to develop a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) plan to achieve your goals. A well-crafted plan provides clarity, defines goals, and aligns actions with objectives. Developing a SMART plan empowers investors with a roadmap, increases the likelihood of success, and helps navigate the complexities of the investment landscape effectively.

  • Grit and resilience:

Cooking for 100 hours is no easy feat, but Hilda showed tremendous grit and resilience. As an investor, it is important to embrace these qualities in pursuing your goals. The investment journey is filled with challenges and setbacks, requiring perseverance to overcome obstacles. Grit helps one to maintain a long-term perspective, stay focused on goals, and adapt to changing market conditions. Resilience enables bouncing back from failures, learning from mistakes, and continuing forward. Both qualities help investors navigate volatility and uncertainty with determination and tenacity.

  • Have a solid support system:

Hilda had a supportive network, including her fitness coach, team, and cheering crowd. As an investor, cultivating a solid support system is crucial. Building relationships with trusted advisors, mentors, and like-minded individuals provides invaluable guidance, insights, and expertise. During challenging times, a support system offers emotional support, motivation, and encouragement, reducing feelings of isolation and stress. Joining communities like MoneyAfrica can help in building your support system. With a solid support system, investors enhance their knowledge, build resilience, and navigate the complex investment landscape with confidence.

  • Stay focused on your goal:

Hilda’s singular goal was to break the world record, and she remained focused for five years. This is vital for investors too. Maintaining focus provides clarity, enabling consistent decisions aligned with objectives. It filters out short-term market noise and distractions, preventing impulsive actions. A steadfast focus helps investors ride out market fluctuations and stay committed to long-term investment strategies, avoiding the temptation of chasing short-term gains.

  • Start with what you have:

Hilda’s cooking skills led her to television, where she started with the cooking segment “In My Kitchen” on Rave TV’s breakfast show. This lesson is for those hesitant to start due to lack of funds. If you are beginning your investment journey, don’t procrastinate—start with what you have. Starting with a small amount allows immediate action towards goals, leveraging available funds to build an investment portfolio and seize potential opportunities.

The lessons from Hilda’s story demonstrate the importance of planning, perseverance, support, focus, and utilising available resources in achieving success as an investor.
